Navigating the Complexities of Cannabis Legislation: Ongoing Efforts and Potential Resolutions

Cannabis laws were supposed to become law but were stopped when the Governor refused to sign off on them. Now, people are trying to find a solution. According to orders from Britain, Governor Rena Lalgie was against the Cannabis Licensing Bill that the House of Assembly passed in 2022, saying that it went against the rules of an international agreement.
A year ago, Attorney-General Kathy Lynn Simmons said that she had set aside $50,000 for more formal work on the process of legalization. During the recent budget debate for the Ministry of Legal Affairs, the Minister said that an extra $50,000 would be used to move the Bill forward.
Recognizing the possible benefits of cannabis reform, the Minister said that the government would back this effort as long as it didn’t break any international rules. She stressed that people are still working hard to find a good answer that follows these rules.
The goal of the suggested law was to set up rules for growing and selling cannabis. Individuals would have been able to have more cannabis and do things like grow it, harvest it, sell it, and send it to other countries with different licenses issued by a licensing body.
